What is this?

The ePIFanyNow™ Y-PIF Award is an opportunity for youth who are passing kindness forward to get recognition and added funding for their in-kind activities/projects. ePIFanyNow™ is pledging to award $500 to either a charity of the winner’s choice* or toward their in-kind project. We are looking for youth in two categories, grades 5-8 and 9-12, who led an activity/project that is making a difference in their communities. We are specifically looking for youth who are performing acts of kindness and helping to make a difference, and better the lives of others.

*All charities and projects will be vetted by members of the ePIFanyNow™ Board and selection committee during the review process.

What do you mean by “project?”
We consider a project to be a specific accomplishment where the applicant has taken initiative to pass kindness forward to others in their communities. A project can be a special deed or activity of kindness.

What do you mean by “make a difference?”

We are looking to award youth who have used their time, talents and treasures to benefit and enhance the lives of others.

What do you mean by “added funding?”

We want to see the Y-PIF winners continue their good work in their communities and see charities benefit from youth’s outstanding efforts. Therefore, we are allowing both public voting through our website as well as a $500 donation from ePIFanyNow™.  The donations collected via the website will go to either the charity of the applicants’ choice or, if they submit a detailed proposal and budget of planned expenses, toward continuing their service project.

Here’s how it breaks down:

The top three chosen submissions from each age category will be highlighted on ePIFanyNow.org, where the public can “vote” for their favorite. Each vote will cost $1 and will be collected via Paypal. All Y-PIF submissions are due by Friday, March 31, 2017. Online voting will open Monday, April 3, 2017 and will close at 2 p.m. at the ePIFanyNow™ annual party on Sunday, May 7, 2017. The event will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the MSU Federal Credit Union main headquarters (3777 West Road in East Lansing).

The winner in each category will receive $500 from ePIFanyNow™, which will go to either a pre-approved charity of the winner’s choice or the winner’s in-kind project for further development.

*All charities and projects will be vetted by members of the ePIFanyNow™ Board and selection committee during the review process.

What types of projects or acts of kindness qualify?

  • Have a positive impact on the community
  • Take place in Michigan
  • Are charitable in nature (which means it focuses on serving the public interest or common good)
  • Project is not religious or political in nature, and is not part of a service organization’s requirement for a badge, etc. (e.g., Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts).

How do you choose the Y-PIF winner and when will they be announced?

A selection committee made up of members of the ePIFanyNow™ Board and celebrity judges will review all applications. The top three submissions, in each age category, will be featured on the ePIFanyNow.org website where the public can “vote” for their favorite. Each “vote” will equal a $1 donation that will be collected via Paypal.

All finalists will also have their projects highlighted at the May 7 party. All finalists will create a poster display of their projects. Finalists will be encouraged to attend the May 7 event and share information about their projects at the start of the party.

  • At 12:30 p.m. Y-PIF finalists arrive and set up their table with information about their project.
  • At 1:00 p.m. general public begins to arrive. They are checked in and encouraged to mix and mingle with student finalists on hand. The public is encouraged to vote for their favorite project.
  • At 2:00 p.m. the public is invited to share a few pass-it-forward stories; things they’ve done to pass kindness forward.
  • At 2:45 p.m. Y-PIF finalists are asked to come to the stage and share information on their project with the public.
  • At around 3:30 p.m. the Y–PIF winner will be announced.

The final Y-PIF winners will be determined by points given by the selection committee during the initial review process.  Those points will be worth 60% of the score.  The final 40% of the score will be based on the amount of money each finalist raises before and during the event.

The winner in each category will receive $500 from ePIFanyNow™, which will go to either a pre-approved charity of the winner’s choice or the winner’s in-kind project for further development.

All charities and projects will be vetted by members of the ePIFanyNow™ Board and selection committee during the review process.
